Aftertone has two main screens you switch between with Tab: the Calendar view and Focus Mode. Within the Calendar view, there is also a Planning view for organising tasks across future days and projects.
The Calendar view
The Calendar view is where you plan and schedule your day. On the left is a side panel with your Inbox, Today, and Upcoming panels. On the right is your calendar showing your time blocks and Google Calendar events. Drag a task from the side panel directly onto a time slot in the calendar to schedule it at a specific time. Or select any task in the sidebar and press S to open a time picker and schedule it immediately as a time block.
Press P on any task to open a planning menu โ choose today, tomorrow, in 2 days, or a custom date. The task moves to that day's list without being assigned to a specific time slot.
For organising tasks across future days and projects without committing to a time block, press 5 to open the Planning view. See The Planning View for the full guide.
Sidebar panels
The left sidebar has four panels:
Inbox โ all unscheduled tasks waiting to be given a time block
Today โ tasks assigned to today, with or without a specific time block
Upcoming โ tasks with a future date assigned
Completed โ tasks you have marked as done
Press 1 for Inbox, 2 for Today, 3 for Upcoming, 4 for Completed.
Calendar view modes
Switch between views using keyboard shortcuts: Command 1 (single day), Command 3 (three day), Command 7 (full week), Command 0 (monthly). Use the week view during weekly planning and the day view during daily execution.
Creating a task from the calendar
Click any empty time slot on the calendar to create a task directly at that time, without going through the sidebar. A new task form opens with the start time already set.
How to use the Calendar view each morning
Open Aftertone before you check email. Look at what is already in your calendar. Then work through your Today and Upcoming lists and drag your most important task into the first time slot on the calendar, or select it and press S to schedule it immediately using the time picker. Aim to have your top priority blocked before you do anything else.
When you are done planning
Once your time blocks are set, press Tab to switch to Focus Mode. You won't really need to return to the Calendar view until something needs major reconstruction.
๐ Try it now โ Open the Calendar view and drag your most important task onto a specific time slot. Then press Tab to switch to Focus Mode.
