How to Cancel Microsoft Planner
Written By The Aftertone Team
Why people leave Microsoft Planner
Microsoft Planner is a kanban-style task tool built into Microsoft 365. For personal productivity on Mac it's a poor fit -- web-based, doesn't integrate naturally with a personal calendar, no focus mode, no way to see whether your personal week was productive.
Before you cancel Microsoft Planner
A few things worth checking before you close the account:
Export your tasks and data. Most Microsoft Planner data can be downloaded from Settings. Look for an Export or Backup option and save a CSV โ you'll want this before the account goes read-only.
Check your billing date. Cancelling stops the next charge, but you usually keep access until the current period ends. There's no need to rush the switch.
Note any integrations. If Microsoft Planner is connected to Google Calendar, Slack, or other tools, those connections will stop working after cancellation. Reconnect them in your new app once you've switched.
How to cancel Microsoft Planner
Microsoft Planner is included with Microsoft 365. Cancel your Microsoft 365 subscription at account.microsoft.com/services.
Go to Microsoft Planner billing settings
What happens after you cancel Microsoft Planner
Your Microsoft Planner account stays active until the end of the billing period you've already paid for. You won't lose access immediately. Use that window to export your data and get set up somewhere new before the account closes.
If you're on an annual plan and cancel partway through, check Microsoft Planner's refund policy โ some apps will prorate the unused months, others won't.
What Aftertone does differently
Aftertone is a native Mac app built for personal planning. Tasks and calendar in one view, time blocking, a Focus Screen, and a weekly report. No dependency on Microsoft 365.
How to get your data out of Microsoft Planner
Step 1. In Microsoft Planner, open a plan, click โฏ โ Export plan to Excel.
Step 2. The file includes task name, assigned to, due date, and bucket.
Step 3. Filter to your own tasks and paste them into Aftertone's Smart Capture.
Microsoft Planner is built for teams โ Aftertone is built for personal execution. Your individual tasks transfer cleanly; shared plans and assignments don't.
