How to Cancel Habitica

Written By The Aftertone Team

Why people leave Habitica

Habitica turns your task list into an RPG. Users who leave typically hit one of two ceilings: the game metaphor stops feeling motivating, or they realise there's no real planning system underneath -- no time blocking, no calendar integration, no focus mode.

Before you cancel Habitica

A few things worth checking before you close the account:

Export your tasks and data. Most Habitica data can be downloaded from Settings. Look for an Export or Backup option and save a CSV โ€” you'll want this before the account goes read-only.

Check your billing date. Cancelling stops the next charge, but you usually keep access until the current period ends. There's no need to rush the switch.

Note any integrations. If Habitica is connected to Google Calendar, Slack, or other tools, those connections will stop working after cancellation. Reconnect them in your new app once you've switched.

How to cancel Habitica

In Habitica, go to Settings, then Subscription, and cancel from there.

Go to Habitica billing settings

What happens after you cancel Habitica

Your Habitica account stays active until the end of the billing period you've already paid for. You won't lose access immediately. Use that window to export your data and get set up somewhere new before the account closes.

If you're on an annual plan and cancel partway through, check Habitica's refund policy โ€” some apps will prorate the unused months, others won't.

What Aftertone does differently

Aftertone doesn't use points or streaks. The motivation mechanism is the weekly flow report -- it shows you the truth about how your time was spent. Real data about real work.

How to get your data out of Habitica

Step 1. Habitica focuses on habits and daily tasks in a game format. There's no standard CSV export.

Step 2. Note your active Dailies and To-Dos, then paste them into Aftertone's Smart Capture.

Habitica's gamification (XP, gold, pets) doesn't transfer. Aftertone replaces the motivation layer with a weekly report showing whether protected time produced real work.

How to set up Aftertone

2. Download Aftertone. Free 14-day trial at aftertone.io/get-started. No card required.

3. Connect Google Calendar. Your existing events pull in immediately. Your calendar and tasks are now in one view.

4. Plan your first week. Use Auto Plan to schedule your tasks. The weekly report will tell you at the end of the week whether it worked.
